Specialties
What is Special About the Bouvier Specialty?
There are two kinds of specialties. They can be either "independent" (a separate show) or "designated classes" (where a breed's specialty is held as part of an all-breed show).
A specialty traditionally draws more participants – a few years ago, there were more than 40 Bouvier entries. So a specialty show provides the opportunity to see more Bouviers and the potential of more points if an entrant does well. For independent specialties, the club selects the judges, while for designated shows it is the all-breed show’s sponsoring club that selects the judges and pays for facility and judging expenses.
Our regional CBdFC Specialty had been part of the all-breed Stumptown Cluster show at the Portland Expo Center each summer. Portland Kennel Club, which held Stumptown, cancelled their June 2022 show due to increased costs for the Portland Expo Center. In 2022, the Vancouver Kennel Club show chair invited CBdFC to hold our Designated Classes Specialty at their show October 29 and 30, 2022,
For 2024, we are partnered with the Rose City Classic and held two Designated Specialties with their shows January 20 and 21, 2024. The American Bouvier des Flandres Club has supported the entries with lovely rosettes plus prizes for the winners. See the list below for information about the sponsored trophies for that event.
In 2025, we will be back with Rose City. That event is January 15-19, 2025, with the Specialty that Saturday and Sunday. Mark your calendars.
Trophy Sponsorship
A Specialty comes with big rosettes and prizes for winners. The Club’s costs for the Specialties are offset by having individuals sponsor those awards. By sponsoring an award, you can have your dedication included with the prizes and attached to the back of the rosettes. We will include a note concerning your honoring or remembering a special dog, friend/family member or event. For example, you might write:
Best of Breed: Jane Doe, “In loving memory of . . .or
Best of Winners: The Jones family, “In honor of . .
Or just “Sponsored by . . .
Information on sponsorship opportunities is sent out to Club members and posted on the Club’s Facebook page. It is a sweet way to remember or thank someone who was important to you and your two and four-footed family and friends. Come to watch the Bouviers, and see who went home with that lovely rosette and prize. Send us the ‘Contact Us’ form from this website if you are interested in being a sponsor.
Please email Cheryl Calm at calmbouv@gmail.com to reserve an award sponsorship. Or post your choice in the comment section on the CBdFC Facebook page. We'll update a list of available trophies here on Facebook. Payment can be handed to Cheryl at any show, paid on the CBdFC website on the membership tab (trophy donation - bottom option) or mailed to:
