Health Topics

The Bouvier des Flandres is normally a healthy dog, with an excellent life expectancy for a dog of it's size. However, like any dog, there are problems which can affect the breeds health. These problems are often perpetuated and increased by uneducated breeders. It is important that all breeding stock be tested for any problems that may be genetic in nature. Even if the problem does not seem wide spread in the breed, that does not mean that indiscriminate breeding cannot cause it to be so in the future. And careful breeding can help eliminate or control many problems. The Cascade Bouvier des Flandres Club and it's members actively support education and research regarding the health of the Bouvier Breed, and the importance Genetics can play in having a healthy, long lived Bouvier.
